Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is looking for a Principal Application Software Engineer to help develop and evolve TDMS, a mission-critical software suite supporting manufacturing test-record management. In this role, you will apply strong Java backend and middle-tier engineering skills to design, build, troubleshoot, and enhance applications that support critical business operations. You will work across the application development lifecycle, partnering with engineers and stakeholders to translate evolving requirements into reliable, maintainable software solutions. This is a hands-on engineering role with opportunities to influence application design, improve development practices, solve complex technical problems, and provide technical guidance to other engineers.
Responsibilities Design, develop, debug, test, and maintain Java middle-tier/backend capabilities supporting TDMS. Translate evolving business requirements into maintainable software solutions while supporting the reliability of a mission-critical application. Develop and troubleshoot services using Spring/Spring Boot, Jakarta, WebLogic, JBoss, or comparable middle-tier technologies. Work extensively in Linux environments to diagnose and resolve application and runtime issues. Build and maintain Jenkins-based build and delivery workflows. Work with XML and JSON data and apply XSLT where appropriate for data transformations. Contribute to cloud-oriented application development using OCI, Azure, or comparable cloud platforms. Troubleshoot complex API, integration, and service-to-service issues and develop appropriate fixes. Participate in and lead code reviews to improve application design, security, maintainability, and code quality. Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders to understand use cases, communicate technical decisions, and deliver application solutions. Provide technical guidance and coaching to other engineers and contribute to improving application development practices. Support application maintenance, testing, upgrades, patches, and vulnerability remediation. Qualifications Strong hands-on Java backend or middle-tier development experience. Extensive experience working in Linux environments. Experience with Spring/Spring Boot and enterprise middleware or application-server technologies such as WebLogic, JBoss, or comparable technologies. Experience with Jenkins, CI/CD, or build automation. Experience working with XML and JSON. Experience with APIs, application integrations, and service-to-service interactions. Cloud experience with OCI, Azure, AWS, or another cloud platform. Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to provide technical guidance, participate in code reviews, and collaborate effectively across teams. XSLT experience is preferred. Exposure to AI-assisted software development tools is a plus. Location : Nashville, TN
