Digital Platform & Engineering (DPE) is Medanta's newly built product and technology organization. Modelled on India's leading internet companies, DPE brings together product managers, designers and engineers to build the products and platforms that power patient journeys, clinical care and hospital operations across the Medanta network. We work from our own office in Noida, with strong sponsorship from the CEO and the stability of a profitable, publicly listed healthcare group.

Role Overview

We are looking for Associate Software Engineers with strong computer science fundamentals and early hands-on experience of how real software gets built, reviewed and shipped. You will build backend services and APIs that doctors, nurses and patients rely on every day.

This is a role for engineers who want to learn fast in a small, high-calibre team. You will work alongside experienced engineering managers and senior engineers, with engineering levels and practices modelled on India's top product companies. We move with startup energy, but in healthcare quality is non-negotiable, so you will learn to build software that is fast to ship and safe to trust.

What You Will Work On

Seamless patient journeys — the services behind finding the right doctor, booking a visit, diagnostics, payments, discharge and follow-up across OPD, IPD, emergency and day care.

Products that empower clinicians and caregivers — technology that assists doctors, nurses and care teams managing heavy patient loads.

Platform-first foundations — reusable services such as payments, care subscriptions, scheduling and a unified patient record, designed once and used by every product across the network.

Voice-first, touch-first and AI-first experiences — backends for products where people speak instead of type, tap instead of filling forms, and are assisted by AI at every step.

A Hospital Information System built from scratch — the core clinical platform, including EMR, that runs every hospital workflow.

Intelligence and interoperability — AI-powered services, healthcare data platforms, and integrations with national digital health standards such as ABDM and FHIR.

Key Responsibilities

Design, build, test and ship backend services and APIs in Java (Spring Boot) or Python (FastAPI), with guidance from senior engineers.

Write clean, well-tested and maintainable code; take part in code reviews, both giving and receiving feedback.

Understand the components of the systems you work on — databases, caches such as Redis, message queues such as Kafka — and why each is used.

Model data and write efficient queries on relational databases such as PostgreSQL.

Debug and fix issues across development and production, and contribute to monitoring and reliability.

Work closely with product managers, designers and senior engineers to understand requirements and the clinical workflows behind them, including occasional visits to our hospitals.

Ask questions, think independently, and constructively challenge designs when something does not add up.

Use AI coding assistants and agents throughout development — planning, implementing, testing and refactoring — while owning every line you ship, whether you or an AI wrote it.

Follow secure coding and data-privacy practices for systems that handle patient data — audit trails, role-based access control and encryption of sensitive data, in line with regulations such as the DPDP Act — and strict guardrails so patient information is never exposed to unapproved AI tools.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Must have

1–2 years of software development experience at a product company, startup or technology services company, with exposure to a real development workflow — version control, code reviews, testing and deployments.

Strong computer science fundamentals: data structures and algorithms, object-oriented programming, databases, and operating systems and networking basics.

Proficiency in Java or Python.

Hands-on use of AI coding assistants and agents (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) in day-to-day development — writing effective prompts, breaking tasks down for an agent, and rigorously reviewing and testing what it produces.

A clear understanding of the project you currently work on — its design, the components used, and the reasons behind those choices.

Strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to explain your thinking clearly while solving a problem.

Good written and verbal communication.

A builder's mindset: excited to build from the ground up, comfortable with ambiguity, and keen to take ownership.

A product mindset — curiosity about how hospitals work, and care for the outcome for the user, not just the ticket.

Depth over frequent switches — we value engineers who have stayed long enough in a role to learn from it.

Good to have

Hands-on experience with Spring Boot or FastAPI.

Exposure to Redis, Kafka, or other caching and messaging systems.

Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD pipelines and cloud platforms such as AWS.

Internships, open-source contributions, or side projects that have been used by real users.

Personal or internship projects that use LLM APIs or build simple agents.

Competitive programming experience.

Exposure to frontend development (React).

Education

B.Tech / B.E. in Computer Science, IT or a related field from a top-tier institution (IITs, IIITs, NITs, BITS or equivalent).
