Principal Data Center Design Manager

Evaluates scoped sites against Oracle’s requirements for data centers. Collaborates with multidisciplinary internal and external teams to design the power, cooling, and air flow designs for the data center infrastructure. Conducts failure analyses and responds to emergencies as needed. Assesses data center infrastructure and evaluate plans provided by the Build and Engineering Services (BES) team. Determines cooling requirements and architectural tradeoffs to ensure the white space design meets their requirements to manage variables such as heat, humidity, and air flow.​ Researches innovative new data center designs, materials, and/or methods.

Key Responsibilities Infrastructure Design and Development-Capacity Delivery: -Delivers infrastructure capacity for Oracle Cloud. -Contributes to collaboration with Site Selection, Design & Construction, and DC Engineering Operations to ensure on-time delivery of expansion capacity in OCI datacenters globally. -Contributes to the delivery of capacity across cloud offerings. -Collaborates with hardware development teams to enable and automate capacity planning tools, real-time observability, and infrastructure monitoring services (e.g., through platform characterization). Infrastructure Design and Development-Infrastructure Development: -Designs data center critical infrastructure for Oracle Cloud. -Collaborates with colocation providers and internal stakeholders to deliver project design criteria and develop Basis of Design. -Partners with hardware development teams to drive the design direction/definition of roadmap, and drive concepts onto roadmap and into OCI fleet. -Collaborates with the hardware development, data center design, and construction teams to ensure seamless transition from architecture to implementation. -Develops and manages advanced cooling solutions. Innovation: -Contributes to the research of new designs, materials, and construction methods for data center equipment and related components, including site and building. -Participates in the identification of and monitors the need for new tools to improve the quality of data and analytics. -Contributes to the evaluation of new power and advanced cooling technologies that enable the delivery of artificial intelligence (AI) products and other technologies driving up density and performance in data centers. -Participates in influencing the development of optimal components and solutions for future OCI fleet requirements by partners (e.g., technology providers and design partners). Innovation-Patent Generation: -Contributes to the identification of opportunities to generate intellectual property to help strengthen OCI’s position as a leader in Cloud Computing. Quality Assurance-Documentation: -Contributes to the review and maintenance of data center infrastructure site documentation (e.g., floor plans, rack elevations, cable matrices). -Participates in reviewing and evaluating Requests for Information (RFI), Requests for Proposals (RFP) and RFP, and Requests for Qualification (RFQ) submittals. -Contributes to the development of OCI data center facilities requirements documentation. Quality Assurance: -Evaluates products. -Follows quality benchmarks for new sites, regions, and/or deployments. -Partners with colocation providers to ensure requirements are met. Quality Assurance-Standard Development/Maintenance: -Contributes to implementing updates to design standards and specifications for consistency, maximum system reliability and optimal facility utilization. -Adheres to global data center infrastructure standards. -Follows whitespace design standards. Thermal Management-Thermal Management Solutions: -Contributes to partnership cross-functionally (e.g., data center design, construction, mechanical/electrical engineering teams) to ensure the provision of optimized, scalable cooling solutions, as well as thermal solutions optimized for the entire stack. -Aligns with power and cooling standards (e.g., input voltage, rack density, heat rejection, power consumption) for OCI shapes throughout data center fleet. Thermal Management-Thermal Testing, Simulation, and Reviews: -Contributes to the review of thermal simulation models from partners to identify risks and improve efficiency. Thermal Management-Thermal Design: -Aligns OCI thermal hardware design and data center physical infrastructure with minimal oversight. -Participates in collaboration with multifunctional engineering groups to deliver hardware and data center sites that meet the associated thermal specifications. -Contributes to collaboration with firmware and controls engineering teams to create robust thermal control and monitoring systems. Core Responsibilities Planning & Execution: -Manages and coordinates moderately complex tasks, monitoring timelines and deliverables to ensure timely completion and adherence to requirements for a moderately-sized project or initiative. Efficiently delegates, monitors, and prioritizes work across multiple projects, providing technical oversight and adjusting plans to address shifts in resources or timelines. Collaboration & Partnership: -Collaborates across the organization to align on expectations and achieve shared objectives. Leverages understanding of business leaders, stakeholders, and/or customers to ensure proposed solutions meet their needs. Supports inclusivity by actively seeking and listening to diverse perspectives, ensuring others feel heard and respected. Problem Solving: -Identifies and addresses moderately complex issues by analyzing a wide range of data and/or information to identify solutions in accordance with standard practices. Proactively escalates unresolved or critical issues with a thorough assessment and suggests potential solutions. Reviews, contributes to, and documents problem solving strategies. Continuous Learning: -Pursues learning opportunities to expand knowledge and skills and/or tools in new areas and stays abreast of the latest industry trends and best practices. Continuous Improvement: -Develops ideas, recommends updates, and/or collaborates on the implementation of process improvements to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of processes, protocols, and workflows across teams, and evaluates the impact on key stakeholders. Performance and Development: -Contributes to the talent development pipeline by participating in candidate interviews, assessing candidates, and providing hiring recommendations.

Range and benefit information provided in this posting are specific to the stated locations only US: Hiring Range in USD from: $102,300 to $209,500 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.
