The Role and Impact

As a Sr. Firmware/BIOS Engineer, you will drive the design and implementation of firmware/BIOS solutions for IP and subsystem components within System-on-Chip (SoC) products. This role requires a strong foundation in SoC and system-level architecture, firmware development in resource-constrained environments, and hardware/firmware co-engineering methodologies to ensure the highest quality product delivery.

You will pioneer innovative approaches to firmware development, including AI-assisted engineering workflows, to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Additionally, you will design scalable and flexible firmware architectures that support graceful evolution across multiple disciplines and future product generations.

Business Group

As part of Intel's Client Computing and Physical AI Group (CCPG), you will be joining the Software and AI (AI) group, a team dedicated to creating innovative software solutions that maximize performance and efficiency across Intel technologies. This group plays a critical role in developing firmware for Intel's advanced silicon products, Edge and Physical AI systems, contributing to the company's mission to deliver world-class computing experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with hardware, architecture, platform, validation, security, and program teams to define requirements, resolve issues and drive the implementation.
  • Design and Implement scalable, modular, and maintainable firmware/BIOS solutions across IP, SoC, and platform layers, ensuring correctness, extensibility, and robust system behavior.
  • Design, implement, and debug embedded firmware/BIOS in constrained environments using C, C++, and Python across pre-silicon and post-silicon phases, including RTL simulation, emulation, silicon bring-up, and platform validation.
  • Drive enablement of new silicon capabilities, platform features, and third-party components within the BIOS/firmware stack.
  • Establish strong engineering discipline through design reviews, code reviews, debug methodologies, continuous integration, automation, and issue tracking.
  • Collaborate on HW/FW co-design and co-validation flows, including test infrastructure, automation frameworks, and debug tools.
  • Maintain source code using professional systems like GitHub, ensuring seamless software development integration.

Work on various firmware interfaces, including PCIe, UART, I2C, SPI, USB, TCSS, SATA, UFS, eMMC, and others, for enhanced system functionality.

  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering productivity through modern development practices and effective use of AI-assisted engineering tools.

What We're Looking For

  • Results-oriented ownership, autonomously solving complex system-level problems spanning technical and organizational boundaries.

  • Proficiency in C programming with hands-on experience in BIOS, Core-boot, or embedded firmware development.
  • Strong understanding of modern processor architecture, computer systems architecture, and low-level firmware that directly interfaces with hardware.
  • Experience with UEFI, ACPI, and modular software design within the Intel Architecture domain.
  • Familiarity with source code management systems such as GitHub for professional software development.
  • Hands-on experience with debugging and trace tools, including Intel x86 ITP and CCA debuggers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge in x86 Processors, and system software architecture.

-Software and firmware development practices including patch submission, bug reporting, and code reviews.

  • Knowledge of platform buses and interfaces such as PCIe, UART, IC, SPI, TCSS, USB, SATA, UFS, eMMC, and other related technologies.
  • Demonstrate strong technical communication, organizational and collaboration skills with the ability to effectively work across diverse teams and environments.
  • A proactive, resourceful approach to problem-solving combined with strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
