About the role
from listingMantel is developing the first molten-salt-based carbon capture technology designed to operate at the high temperatures found inside boilers, kilns, and furnaces, enabling highly efficient carbon capture that has not been possible until now. Carbon capture can be applied across industries to reduce emissions and achieve net-negative emissions. By solving for efficiency Mantel can cut costs substantially, unlocking carbon capture’s role in reaching net zero emissions by 2050. To learn more, go to:
The Product Engineering Manager role is about owning the equipment that makes Mantel’s technology work and is a key value driver of Mantel’s Licensing Business model. You’ll take our proprietary equipment packages (PEPs) from specification to delivery: picking the right vendors, holding them to the right standard, and making sure what arrives on site performs the way our process needs it to. This is part engineer, part project manager, and fully accountable for the outcome.
You’ll sit on the Product team and work at the intersections of engineering, projects and business development. When someone asks “where are we on that equipment?”, you’re the person with the answer. This is a role as a technical manager working to deliver through a commercial lens. You don’t need to have all the technical answers, but you should be technical enough to know who or what to ask.
This is initially an individual contributor role with high visibility. You’ll work closely with senior leadership and own your packages end to end from day one. Expect to travel to vendor shops and project sites up to 25% of the time.
What you’ll do:
- Equipment Package Ownership
Develop Mantel’s PEPs alongside internal and external engineering resources, defining scope, battery limits, and how our equipment integrates with the broader plant design
Own the technical and commercial scope for Mantel’s PEPs across projects
Be the single point of accountability for each package, from first spec to installed and running
Translate process requirements into clear specifications, datasheets, and scopes of supply for Mantel’s projects
- Vendor Selection & Management
Find, qualify, and select the vendors and fabricators who can build first-of-a-kind equipment well
Run RFQs and bid evaluations; compare vendors on technical capability, cost, schedule, and quality, not just price
Manage vendors through design, fabrication, inspection, and delivery, and push back when something isn’t right
Protect Mantel’s intellectual property in every vendor engagement
- Project Engineering
Lead design reviews and drawing approvals, and manage the interfaces between our equipment and the rest of the plant
Keep vendor documentation, technical queries, and changes organized and moving
Coordinate shop inspections and factory acceptance testing, and make sure the quality paperwork is complete
- Project Management
Build and manage schedules and budgets for each package
Track progress, flag risks early, and drive issues to resolution rather than reporting on them
Manage change orders with a clear view of cost and schedule impact
- Delivery, Commissioning & Continuous Improvement
Support installation and commissioning alongside our field teams and help resolve equipment issues on site
Capture what we learn on each project and feed it back into design standards, vendor strategy, and the next generation of equipment
Who You Are:
Experience: 7+ years in project engineering, equipment engineering, or package management for process or industrial facilities
Education: B.S. in Mechanical or Chemical/Process Engineering required
Put differently,
You’ve taken equipment from a spec sheet to a running plant, and you know where it usually goes wrong
You can read a P&ID and a GA drawing, and you can tell when a vendor is overpromising
You’re equally comfortable in a design review and on a fabrication shop floor
You keep schedules, budgets, and paperwork under control without letting them become the job
You hold vendors accountable firmly but fairly, and they still want to work with you
You like first-of-a-kind problems more than repeating what’s been done before
You’re low-ego, direct, and you follow through
What You’ll Get:
Ownership of the equipment at the heart of Mantel’s technology, at the moment we move from demonstration to commercial deployment
A role that shapes our vendor base, design standards, and how Mantel builds equipment for years to come
Close collaboration with senior leadership and a growing scope as Mantel scales
A central role in building one of the most exciting carbon capture companies in the world
We provide competitive and holistic compensation to all our full-time team members, including:
Highly competitive pay based on experience, including equity
90% subsidized medical and dental healthcare coverage for employees, 50% for dependents
Unlimited vacation policy, mental health personal days, generous sick leave, plus a week-long winter break at the end of December
Health/Fitness and cell phone stipend
Paid parental leave
